ALIVE Speak 101

I'm trying something new today... I'm going to (hopefully... I'm not totally sure that I know what I'm doing) be "linking up" for the

first. time. ever.
Historic, I know.
Brittany from Mrs. Yellow Ribbon is hosting Show and Tell Tuesday. Today we are telling about the words or phrases that we use in our everyday life... not the "normal"ones though... because that would be a really boring post. Instead share the ones where when you say them... people look at you with a blank expression trying to decide if they heard you wrong, or if you are just a little crazy... which I am not. Just saying.
Before I get into this... I feel like I should say that I work with creative teenagers in a drama/art team and I get most of this from them... hence the title of this post... "ALIVE Speak 101". You can read about our adventures at the ALIVE Blog here.
Team
One will say "team" when one
  1. agrees with a statement
  2. understands a statement
  3. thinks something is a good idea
  4. is looking for affirmation (in the form of a question)

"Team" takes the place of

  1. OK
  2. Alright
  3. Gottcha
  4. Good idea
  5. Do you agree?

Example Conversation:

-I think we should go to Taco Bell for dinner... team?

-Team!

-Team. Let's go!

Toats Ep

"toats ep" is short for totally epic

One will say "toats ep" when one

  1. thinks something is awesome
  2. wants to get someones attention (in a high sing-song Micky Mouse-like voice, because really, who wouldn't look at you if you said that?)
  3. agrees with a statement

"toats ep" takes the place of

  1. Awesome!
  2. Cool!
  3. Neat-o!
  4. Totally Epic! (because sometimes that is just too long of a statement)

Example Conversation:

- Aww toats ep!!! I got an extra taco from Taco Bell!

- Ooo toats ep!!! Lemme have it!

- No!

- Toats la. (Totally Lame... I'm pretty sure you can guess when to use that :))

Rod

"Rod" is a pretty new addition to our vocabulary... but I think it'll stick.

One can use the word "rod" in place of "team" if one would like... but one can also use "rod" when...

  1. they think something/someone is cool

"Rod" takes the place of

  1. Cool
  2. Hip

Example Conversation:

- Abbie, I think you are so rod.

-Thanks Sarah, I think you are rod and toats ep!

-Aww thanks Abbie!

Well, I hope you feel a little bit smarter now :) If we hear you using our vocabulary... we will think you are toats aws, not toats la. Team? Rod!
